As the local chapter of the Trout Unlimited (TU), the Redwood Empire Chapter of Trout Unlimited (RETU), based in Santa Rosa, California, is focused on 4 primary goals for our local salmon and steelhead fisheries.

That is to:

PROTECT, RECONNECT, RESTORE, and SUSTAIN

our North Coast cold water fisheries including the Russian River, the Petaluma River, and the Napa River. We are watershed advocates on behalf of the tributaries of these rivers that serve as spawning and rearing habitat for Steelhead and Coho Salmon. We speak for the Chinook Salmon that spawn in the mainstem of our rivers. We also watchdog the watershed health of our local streams such as Salmon Creek, Sonoma Creek, San Antonio Creek, and the Esteros.

We are dedicated to restoring healthy riparian habitats in all these waters so that our Chinook, Coho and Steelhead fisheries are once again thriving and in good condition. We envision a restored run of 50,000 WILD Steelhead in the Russian River making it the world class sport fishing resource it was as recently as 1968. It is a goal supported by Redwood Empire cities, Sonoma County and the State of California
