Earth Day Festival
We’ve all heard the energy of youth at high school sporting events. We all know the immense energy available to teens when they are enthused. Today we have some teens who are enthused about saving the earth. They are the students from Healdsburg High’s Progressive Club.
For the last seven years the students of the Progressive Club have presented speakers, music, and an art show on campus at lunch to celebrate Earth Day. This year they chose to expand the celebration to the community at large.
On Saturday, April 17th from 11 – 5, the Progressive Club will be hosting their eighth annual Earth Day Festival in the plaza in downtown Healdsburg. This free celebration will feature a number of booths from various community, environmental, and social justice organizations. There will be a cake walk, an art show, a silent auction, and more. The entertainment for the day will include HHS jazz band, Ballet Folklorico, Sprocket Odyssey, Happy Accident, Secret Cat, and God’s Oddities. The speakers will include the nation’s leading expert on Peak Oil, Richard Heinberg, the investigators from Project Censored, Committee for Immigrant Rights spokesperson Alicia Sanchez, and city council member Mike McGuire There will also be a special guest appearance by Mother Earth herself, painting faces in the children’s area. This is a community celebration. Everyone is invited to join in this celebration of the earth and the life it gives us.
