INVEST LOCAL WEEK TOURS

Learn from and share ideas with other entrepreneurs and innovators. California Stock Exchange founder Howard Leonhardt will lead tours and discussions at local business incubators including the Sebastopol Entrepreneurs Project, the North Bay Innovation Hub, the Share Exchange, and the Science & Technology Incubation Center. Amy Cortese, award-winning journalist and author ofLocavesting: The Revolution in Local Investing and How to Profit From it, will speak at multiple venues to provide a national perspective. A special round-table discussion Thursday with Howard, Amy and local nonprofits will explore ways to creatively leverage our existing local resources.

About the Organizers:

Invest Local Week is a collaborative venture of The Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy, Sonoma County GoLocal Cooperative, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Santa Rosa, CoIgnite, and other community members.

About the Speakers:

Howard Leonhardt - Howard is an inventor and serial entrepreneur, founder of the California Stock Exchange, helping small companies, musicians, writers, artists and film makers to raise funds to pursue their dreams.  Howard’s goal is to create 23 million new jobs in a decade.

Amy Cortese - Amy is an award-winning journalist who writes about topics spanning business, finance, food, wine and travel. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, New York, Business Week, and the New York Times, among other publications. Her recently published book, Locavesting: The Revolution in Local Investing and How to Profit From it (John Wiley & Sons, 2011), draws upon her experience covering these diverse realms to explore how a small shift in investment away from multinationals towards locally-owned enterprises can reap enormous economic and social benefits for individuals, their communities and the country.

Jenny Kassan - Jenny is the CEO of Cutting Edge Capital. Jenny has over fifteen years of experience as an attorney for and creator of social enterprises.  She has raised funds for and launched a public space cleaning and maintenance business, a landscapers’ cooperative, and a public market.  She has extensive experience with direct public offerings, nonprofit-for-profit joint ventures, cooperatives, and creative financing tools.  She has a law degree from Yale and a masters in city planning from U.C. Berkeley.
