What is your fondest memory of living in Sonoma County?
My wife and I had just moved to Petaluma with our (then) 16 month old, little boy… We had stumbled upon “Bus Stop Good Coffee,” a local coffee cart with friendly faces, effortlessly cranking out perfect coffee drinks. At the cart, there was always a buzz of activity despite the very chilly January weather.
One of our first mornings at the cart, a very tall man rolled up on his bicycle to which our little guy pointed up to the man’s helmet and said, “hah-moo!”. We explained to the perplexed man that our little one was learning new words and this was his way of saying “helmet!”. The man cracked a smile and sat down to join us. Our conversation rolled naturally… So much so, that the man ended up strolling with us all the way back to our house, where he gave us a quick audit of the garden beds we’d just inherited.
The next day, we found an assortment of potted “starters” for our first food garden. Since then, Arann has become one of our dearest friends in the community.
This warm “welcome to the neighborhood” marked our introduction to the fact that folks in Sonoma County simply care for one another.
Our last few years, here in Sonoma County, have echoed this sense of generosity, community and genuine kindness.
Describe what you experience as the greatest treasure of Sonoma County.
The connection to the land… whether through the food grown here, the grapes harvested and juiced here, the land explored here or the roads traveled here… I constantly find myself in awe of this spectacular patch of Earth, Sonoma County.
