Copperfield's History in Santa Rosa

Copperfield's Books is much more than a place to purchase a new book or magazine. It's where national authors meet their readers in an intimate setting to discuss literature and ideas. It's where passionate thinkers are hired as booksellers. It's where book lovers enjoy spending their time. Eight Copperfield's stores are flourishing locally in Sonoma and Napa counties thanks to book lovers who appreciate the difference local independent booksellers offer.

The stores are vibrant gathering places that offer cozy surroundings for finding stimulating books or informally meeting neighbors to talk about a bestseller. The Copperfield's website embodies that local independent bookstore feeling as well along with our commitment to service online.

It began in 1981 when Barney Brown and Paul Jaffe launched Copperfield's in a small storefront in downtown Sebastopol in 1981. The town needed a full-service bookstore and Brown and Jaffe embraced the chance to share what they loved - books - with the public. Now with stores in Healdsburg, Napa, Calistoga, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and Sebastopol, that love of books governs us still.

My first stop for books - they always have what I am looking for - have the very best Used Book Annex in Sebastopol - and because they are members of the Independent Booksellers Group - you can get any book you want, usually within three days. Some of their stores have sections for local publications, so I put copies of my paper, The Sonoma County Gazette on their racks. I appreciate them supporting reading of all kinds. Readers have a better command of language than non-readers because they SEE words spelled correctly, and sentences formed into cohesive concepts. Thank you Copperfields for supporting the print publishing!
