What is your fondest memory of living in Sonoma County?
Our fondest memory of living Sonoma County is of the day we literally put our roots down by planting our first fruit trees in our back yard.
Describe what you experience as the greatest treasure of Sonoma County.
We feel so lucky to be close to such an amazing array of good foods produced right here in Sonoma County.
What for you defines 'quality of life'?
For us, quality of life must be looked at from local as well as global perspectives.
First and foremost, we must ensure that baseline economic, environmental, health, housing, and food needs for all people are met. Unfortunately, we are witnessing a lot of suffering today in our neighborhoods in Sonoma County and around the world. Just within our block over half of our neighbors have lost their homes. At the same time, we are seeing too many people are lining up at the food pantry to get their next meal. This is happening all over our country. It is clear that business as usual is not working to improve our quality of life, and we must change the way we live. We joined Go Local because their mission resonates with ours at Petaluma Pie Company. In our pie business, we want to "walk the talk." We hope to produce and deliver pies that not only taste delicious but also benefit our local economy.
What gets you really excited about your business?
We love working on new pie recipes and we are delighted and motivated by our customers' enthusiasm for our pies. We love being part of the Sonoma County community, and feel fortunate to be able to live and work in the same town.
We joined Go Local because their mission resonates with ours at Petaluma Pie Company. We work hard to produce and deliver affordable pies that not only taste delicious but also benefit our local economy by sourcing local ingredients. When we buy ingredients from other countries such as chocolate or coffee, we try to benefit other communities as well by buying Fair Trade certified products.
Thinking about your business, what keeps you up at night?
We always sleep soundly because we work so hard all day.
If you could have one wish come true for Sonoma County, what would it be?
We would wish for the housing crisis to end and the jobs situation to improve.
What is your favorite quote or motto?
“If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe.”
Carl Sagan
What or who do you most admire in Sonoma County?
We admire the farm workers and small family farmers who's labor and contributions are too often taken for granted. Without them, we wouldn't have the bounty that we enjoy in Sonoma County.
What brought you to Sonoma County?
We were drawn by the beauty of the rolling hills and the opportunity to garden outside of the fog of San Francisco.
