Our Mission

The Sonoma County GoLocal Cooperative Mission and Values

Dec. 23, 2010

What We Do

GoLocal's mission is to reclaim our local economic power by . . .

  • Educating the community on the need to support locally owned businesses to create a resilient economy
  • Engaging all community stakeholders by providing ownership in the cooperative
  • Formalizing and strengthening community relationships by building a diverse and active membership
  • Sustaining well-being through community reinvestment

Why We Do It

Locally owned businesses are the foundation for a thriving local economy.  By working together we can ensure that our economic power resides locally to sustain livable communities, healthy ecosystems and increased quality of life for Sonoma County residents.

Over the past six decades, most communities like Sonoma County, have become less self-reliant for the goods and services we consume.  We import what we need instead of producing or providing it ourselves.  While it isn't rational to imagine we could produce or provide everything we need, likewise it isn't rational to assume that we can't reclaim some sectors like farming, manufacturing, retail and services to a greater extent than we currently demonstrate.  The more we can "plug these leaks", the more jobs we can create here.  Higher employment through locally owned businesses contributes to a wealth-building economy.

Our Values

  • We value our time, health, each other and the resources we all depend on - clean air, pure water, fertile soil and the sun's energy.
  • We value the scale, structure, and complexity of our community and its economy.
  • We value personal and group responsibility.
  • We value fairness.
