2021 Pinniped Monitoring Volunteer Training/Q&A Session

April 29, 2021

About

Pinniped Monitoring Program volunteers collect data to ensure the protection of harbor seals during Russian River estuary activities. This is mandated work required by the Sonoma Water for the Biological Opinion and to be in compliance with a Marine Mammal Protection Act Incidental Harassment permit. Data provides valuable information on the status and health of the harbor seals who use Goat Rock State Beach as a resting and pupping area. Prior to this training/Q&A session volunteers will be required to view the following recording about the program from 2020. RECORDING LINK There are two ways that people can volunteer for this program. One is as a State Park volunteer where you can count your hours for a park pass. Volunteers earn a District pass by volunteering for 24 hours annually and a Statewide pass for volunteering for 200 or more hours annually, or you can be a Steward's volunteer and earn $50 per shift.
