Stony Point Rock Quarry has provided construction-grade aggregate and soil products to consumers and contractors in Sonoma County for over 100 years.

In the late 1800s Stony Point Rock Quarry was located on Peterson Road, west of its current location. It was known for providing marble-like blocks for building construction in Sonoma and Marin counties, including the County Courthouse in Santa Rosa, the Miller Block at Main & Washington Street in Petaluma, the Phoenix Block on Main Street in Sebastopol, and the Catholic Church in Tomales.

In the 1900s the quarry was relocated to its current home on Stony Point Road. Since that time, materials mined from this location have been crushed and used primarily in the construction industry for roadways, drainage, and rip rap stabilization.

In 1987, Soiland Company, ran by founder Marv Soiland, became sole-owner of the quarry after a long career in the local construction industry. Today, Soiland Company and Stony Point Rock Quarry are family owned and operated by the second generation of the Soiland family. Marv’s son, Mark Soiland, serves as president.

To make a wider selection of aggregate materials and soil products available to Sonoma County residents and contractors, Soiland Company expanded its family to included Grab N’ Grow Soil Products in Santa Rosa and Soils Plus in Sonoma.

Sustainable Efforts
Sustainable Efforts

Our office building at Stony Point Rock Quarry has been powered by solar panels since 2007, but last year we expanded that benefit to our plant operations and stalled a 202 kW, 33 dual-axis solar tracker system. This innovation system has solar trackers that use GPS technology to accurately follow the sun from rise to set, producing up to 40% more energy than traditional fixed rooftop or ground mounted systems. Overall, our solar system will generate more than 400,000 kilowatt-hours per year!

Local Projects
Local Projects

Stony Point Rock Quarry was a key provider of materials for the 2013 construction of the Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park. Materials provided includes 90,000 tons of recycled road base, 30,000 tons of drain rock, and 11,000 cubic yards of bioswale soil for stormwater filtration around the parking lots and drainage areas. Pictured here is the beginning of one bioswale topped off with large drain rock. For more examples of local projects we have contributed to, please go to our website.
