About
Scientist, researcher, activist, and author Diana Reiss will appear at The Community Church of Sebastopol on Saturday, September 24 at 7 pm to discuss her book The Dolphin in the Mirror. Reiss is Director of dolphin research at the Baltimore Aquarium and served as science consultant for the award-winning film The Cove.
In The Dolphin in the Mirror, she combines her science and activism to show how just how smart dolphins really are and why we must stop mistreating them. She chronicles the history of scientific human/dolphin interactions and her personal experiences as a doctoral student studying dolphin intelligence, leading to emotional bonds formed with individual dolphins and her greater mission as an activist fighting mistreatment of dolphins worldwide.
Readers will be astonished at Reiss' dolphins' sophisticated lifelong creativity and playfulness, their emotional intelligence, their level of self-awareness, and their ability to communicate with humans. The Dolphin in the Mirror is both a scientific revelation and an emotional eye-opener, revealing one of the greatest intelligences on the planet. This event is co-sponsored by the Cordell Bank Marine Mammal Foundation.
