About
North Bay Credit Union is a not-for-profit cooperative owned by its members. Our goal is to provide a local alternative to profit-driven banks. Each dollar of income is passed along to our members in the form of higher dividends on savings, lower interests on loans and free checking accounts. Membership is open to any person who supports local farmers and food production. Our members enjoy friendly service, the best rates in Sonoma County and a clear conscience.
History : Established in 1948, NBCU is the oldest credit union in Sonoma County. It was founded by Grange farmers who pooled their savings to help farmers with no credit, buy land and equipment to start their own farming operations. For the longest time NBCU was the Grange members' credit union and served their values: land stewardship, resilient community, production of healthy food. A grassroots icon, North Bay Credit Union has been a regular sponsor of youth, farming organizations and events, such as Sonoma County Fair, 4-H, Agboosters, Food System Alliance... NBCU is the first credit union in Sonoma County to offer student loans to its members, 0% Ag loans to young farmers and free scholarships to students in agriculture. NBCU is known for caring for the well-being of its members, like raising money to help the widows and orphans of deceased members. During the great recession of 2007-2008, NBCU supported the foreclosure moratorium proposed by Occupy Movement activists, and is proud to have not foreclosed on any of its members to date.
