Jim Brumm

Jim Brumm has been in turn a writer, editor, and magazine publisher for over twenty-three years, during which time he wrote a weekly newspaper column and helped start four publications. He has served as the staff writer at an environmental restoration firm in Sebastopol, California, and a Web design firm in Santa Rosa, and has written hundreds of business profiles and other articles.

For the past several years Jim has undertaken an in-depth study of the ills facing societies today and in the past, and realized they have a common theme: a lack of long-term thinking, something little understood and rarely discussed directly though it has plagued humanity for thousands of years. He is currently writing a book, Long-Term Thinking for a Short-Sighted World. This piece is excerpted from that larger work.

Jim has recently created a Web site/blog, Long Term Thinking, to provide a forum for articles and discussion on the subject of long-term thinking. He is a member of Slow Food, USA, and The Long Now Foundation.
Jim is a resident of Santa Rosa, California. He rides a Vespa.
